Description


This training will begin with an overview of the history and development of therapeutic use of sand and miniatures, differentiation of the original sandplay therapy from sandtray play therapy, and exploration of the tools and practice technique of sandplay/sandtray therapy.


The second half of this training will include Internal Family Systems (IFS) model created by Robert Schwartz. Participants will learn how to apply these concepts in sandtray work. A mixture of didactic and experiential methods will help participants learn the basics of recognizing and working with ego states in the sandtray process. 


Objectives


1. State the origin of sandtray play therapy


2. Identify the therapeutic value of sandtray in play therapy


3. Demonstrate the process of creating and holding sandtrays


4. Identify three types of parts involved in Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory


5. Describe the concept of "Self" in IFS and sandtray models   


6. Demonstrate interventions to explore parts of Self in the sandtray process


Presenter: Amanda Bechtel, LCPC, ATR-BC

Amanda is a board certified registered art therapist, licensed clinical professional counselor and licensed clinical professional art therapist. She is certified as a Practitioner Member of Sandplay Therapists of America. She has worked at both the Eating Disorder Center at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to eating disorders, she has used art therapy to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, self-injurious behavior and substance abuse. She holds a certificate in advanced trauma treatment. Amanda currently sits on the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists for the state of Maryland.

Art Therapists (LCAT, ATR-BC) may obtain CE Hours based on our NBCC approval status.


Cancellation Policy:


Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.


CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
