DESCRIPTION:
Given these unprecedented times and struggles due to COVID-19, children and adolescents are faced with increased sadness, worry, anxiety and anger. According to a 2020 public opinion poll released by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), 62% of Americans feel more anxious than they did in 2019. Due to such great increase in anxiety and depression, it is important to acknowledge and address these issues in children and families. Teaching effective and age-appropriate mindfulness skills to better manage these depressive moods should be part of treatment delivery. In this 4-hour workshop, we will explore ways to help clients effectively alleviate stress, worries and sad feelings, using mindfulness, breath work, guided meditation and simple yoga postures.
