Description:
Expect to laugh during this daring, delightful, and dazzling workshop, which invites
dolls and puppets into your clinical space. Clients’ across the lifespan often project their own story. The therapist becomes the sacred witness, handing the client a comforting image to be caressed, stroked or even thrown. Effectively facilitate healing complex wounds
of trauma by addressing the avoidance of pain that has isolated parts of Self (exiled). Furry
friends awaken the brain that is keeping the client’s body, mind and spirit from predicting
the world as a safe place (Interoceptive harmony). You will be given many practical ideas and experiences, along with videotaped clinical material and concrete handouts.
Learning Objectives:
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to..
- Describe 3 key components of gathering a client's history of Puppet/Doll use.
- Name 4 tools to aid in the Assessment Phase of identifying the Complex Wounds of Trauma.
- Demonstrate how to operate puppets/dolls by correct use of eye focus, voice, gestures, character and narrative.
- Identify the basic concepts of Puppet Play Therapy, including ethical guidelines specific to the psychotherapeutic use of puppets/dolls.
- Describe personal use of puppets in childhood or with clients
- Identify ethical considerations when working with puppets
You will make a puppet appropriate for your setting, practice using the basic concepts of psycho-therapeutic puppetry, and discover the magic of puppet/doll use for a variety of cultures

Presenter: Joanne Vizzini, Ph.D., LCPC
Graduate in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola Univ., MD, who supervised and taught clinical interns there for 14 yrs. She’s presented about puppets in national & international venues for 40 yrs. She loves ALL ages and is trained in psychodrama, spirituality, substance abuse, codependency, LD/ADHD, and EMDR. Publications include a chapter, “…Puppet Play Therapy for Adults,” (2018). Her YouTube channel features rap about body safety for parent and child. Dr. V’s private practice in Columbia, MD services adults, teens and children.

Cancellation Policy:
Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.
CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund.
