Description:

Attend this introductory play therapy session to experience innovative ways to reach children. With play therapy, children are able to be themselves. The therapist puts away notetaking and focuses entirely on the child. There are no demands and the child is free express him or herself.   


Objectives:

  • Identify the therapeutic powers of play and how they work to bring about healing
  • Demonstrate they principles of child-centered play therapy
  • Describe and practice at least three direct play therapy strategies

Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit practice providing children's mental health services. Ms. Hinds is trained in Child-Centered and Gestalt play therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired). Authored chapter, Play Therapy with African-American Village in text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy, edited by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S and Athena Drewes, PsyD,
