3 CE Hours/Clock Hours

July 27, 2021, 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm Eastern Standard Time

Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 3 CONTACT/CE Hours.

Who should attend: Educators, School Administrators,
Mental Health Professionals and Play Therapists

Description:
The impact of stress has far-reaching consequences in the classroom, affecting behavior, ability and receptivity to learning. With the spike in anxiety in children and teens, teachers and mental health professionals need to be equipped with key information and quick strategies to decrease stress and help anxious students face their fears. When you give anxiety what it needs—not what it wants—you can spend more time on instruction, less time dealing with behavior issues and cultivate an environment where students stress less, think better and learn more.
Additionally, school-based counselors and teachers will benefit from play therapy techniques that are easily implemented for automatic negative self-talk that influence anxiety and challenging behavior.

Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how anxiety really works and affects the mind and body
  • Identify patterns of anxiety and how to interrupt them
  • Demonstrate creative ways to use the power of play to help children identify and correct cognitive distortions
  • Demonstrate an actionable strategy to manage anxiety
  • Identify educational goals for communication, accommodation and skill building tips for the classroom and therapeutic setting
  • Demonstrate and practice play therapy strategies for self-regulation in the classroom and during virtual sessions.
